Sr. Product Manager - Marketing

Challenge

We were challenged by the exclusive opportunity to find a Sr. Product Manager – Marketing for an exceptional group on an aggressive hiring timeline. The group was looking for a candidate that had prior industry experience in the iTV or cable industry so that he/she could provide knowledgeable contributions to the Product Marketing team within a few weeks of being hired. The timeline for a candidate hire was immediate because the team was scheduling a release in approximately four months from the commencement of my search.

Approach

Our strategy for the search included identifying people with recent experience as a Product Manager at an iTV or cable company. In addition, we focused on networking / recruiting throughout the Bay Area because of the expediency of hiring a local candidate. Once we began the search, we identified that many candidates had left the iTV space in 2000 when research and development in the industry dwindled. Consequently, there were few candidates with recent industry experience.

As we continued our networking efforts, we were led to a woman who had prior industry experience at a prominent company until 2000. Since she had been away from the iTV space for five years, I was concerned about her overall fit for the group. In addition, she had strayed from a Product Marketing focus into more technical and R&D positions. While I had my doubts, I was continually impressed with her ability to generate ideas about the iTV industry. She had an obvious passion and interest in the iTV space that transcended her lack of recent experience. Overall, I chose to present her because I was overwhelmingly impressed with her as an intelligent person who had an incredible energy, passion, and presence

Outcome of Search

The above mentioned candidate was hired as a Sr. Product Manager – Marketing approximately four weeks after we commenced the search. After giving two weeks notice, she joined the company and helped lead them to a successful release.

Current state of relationship
